“Through the art of storytelling and the power of words, I hope to empower my students with confidence and bravery as they walk out onto the stage or into the world.” – Guy Myers
Guy Myers is a theatre geek, and he always will be. After graduating from Yale University with a degree in Theatre Studies and traveling the U.S. as an actor, writer, and director, Guy found himself once again in the classroom, but this time as a guest artist and director.
Inspired by the energy and enthusiasm of his students and the magic of how the arts empower all students to succeed, he knew he had to be a teacher and graduated with a Master’s degree in education from Mount St. Mary’s College.
During his run as the proud drama teacher at John Burroughs High School in Burbank, California, the theatre program he built over the last fifteen years earned statewide and national attention from multiple theatre organizations. Mr. Myers was also presented with the Burbank Arts Educator Award in 2018, was named the Teacher of the Year for the Burbank Unified School District and Los Angeles County in 2019, and most recently was named as a California Teacher of the Year for 2020. Most importantly, Guy loves teaching his students to express themselves creatively, to find their voices, and to share their authentic selves. Education comes in being allowed to be who you truly are and to be open in the sight of others.
Currently, Guy changed directions and is now teaching Honors English 10 and working with the National Academy Foundation students as they prepare for careers in the real world. Guy also serves as a mentor for new teachers at Mount Saint Mary’s University and has recently joined the induction team for new teachers in the Burbank Unified School District to support our up-and-coming influencers in education.
