I have been an educator within the Orange Unified School District for 19 years, 15 years as a classroom teacher, and the last three as an instructional specialist and Teacher on Special Assignment. I began my teaching career in special education, where I focused on providing a personalized learning experience for each of my students.
My Masters of Arts in Special Education allowed me the opportunity to focus on research and the statistical evaluation of data to guide my instructional decisions During this time, I developed a system to follow the progress of each student at my school, closely monitoring changes in attendance, academics, and behavior. This system allowed me to work with all students and teachers to create a positive, supportive network committed to student achievement.
As I have transitioned into the role of an instructional specialist, I have enjoyed the opportunity to work with administrators and leaders throughout the district and county. Working with adult learners is a passion of mine. My calm demeanor, collaborative nature, and effective communication skills lead to facilitated learning opportunities. My strong work ethic, organizational skills, and understanding of effective instructional strategies allow me to design engaging and impactful professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators.
I am a passionate educator committed to lifelong learning. I actively seek out opportunities to work with educators across the district and the state to increase my knowledge base and impact on student learning. Being California Teacher of the Year allowed me to work with the California Commission on Teaching Credentialing, speak on the legislative floor, and present at various conferences throughout the state.
I have continued my educational journey over the years. Currently, I am enrolled in the doctoral program in urban leadership at Claremont Graduate University to further my understanding of leadership, research, and statistical analysis.
